About us

Hello and welcome to Asbury United Methodist Church.  We are so glad that you are here.  We are a church in the heart of York City that strives to support our local community.  Our mission is to introduce people to Jesus and grow more like him together.  We offer many programs and events that support this mission.  You can check out our upcoming events on the main page or you can find more information under Events.

We are a down to earth, come as you are church so don't worry, you'll fit right in here!  You can find a message from our Pastor below.  If you'd like to know more about us you can visit us at one of our three weekly weekend services.  You can find more information here.

Grace and peace to you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ! We are pleased that you are taking the time to check out Asbury Church, a United Methodist Congregation.

Asbury Church has a long history, beginning all the way back to 1781 when Methodism was a movement rather than a denomination. From our start, we have found ways to introduce people to Jesus, our Lord. Virtually every Methodist Church in and around York had their start at Asbury. We continued that traditional more recently with the First Spanish Church of York and Christ Hope Church.

Asbury has also been involved with the community around us. In the 1950's the congregation was instrumental in developing a ministry called FISH which later evolved into our modern 911 system. We have invited schools into our dwelling and presently house the Keystone Christian Academy, and we continue to reach out to the community with free breakfasts and dinners for all who want to come. We have also host a men’s closet for people in need as well as providing Pennsylvania ID’s and bus passes for people seeking employment.

A strong highlight for those visiting Asbury is worship. We provide contemporary and traditional worship experiences weekly. Contemporary celebrates at 6:30 p.m. Saturday night and 9:00 a.m. on Sunday. Traditional worship is held at 11:oo a.m. on Sunday. Though the services are different, both provide excellent music, prayer, and Bible based messages that speak of issues and situations that people encounter every day in our modern world.

I am Chuck Sprenkle, the lead pastor here. I was raised on faith and saved by grace, trained and ordained to help individuals and congregations move from where they are to where God wants them to be. If you would like to be involved with a church that has a prestigious past and a strong desire to move into the future, if want to move closer to Jesus Christ and find ways to serve a
community in his name, if you want to hear God’s Word speaking to your life today, please join us at Asbury Church. We are waiting to welcome you any time.
